24-year-old man arrested for raping 81-year-old woman in Lusaka

In a shocking incident in Shantumbu area of Lusaka, Maurice Chomba, a 24-year-old man residing in the same neighborhood, has been arrested for raping an 81-year-old woman.

Chomba allegedly entered the elderly woman’s house on May 12, 2024, around 23:00 hours and committed the heinous act.

According to Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale, Chomba found the victim alone in the living room and then dragged her to her bedroom where he raped her.

“The suspect was caught in the act by the victim’s 24-year-old grandson and was apprehended and handed over to the police, while the victim was rushed to the hospital,” stated Mwale.

The victim’s condition was reported to be unstable, and Chomba is currently in custody awaiting charges.

In another distressing incident, a 7-year-old girl from Lusaka’s Chipata Overspill was defiled by a 37-year-old man from the same area.

Police were alerted when the mother noticed her daughter experiencing difficulty walking.

Upon questioning, the victim revealed that she had been assaulted by a known man in an unfinished house near their residence on May 12, 2024, around 14:00 hours.

Mwale confirmed that the victim was immediately taken to the hospital for medical examinations and a manhunt ensued, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The perpetrator is currently detained awaiting formal charges.
