In a harrowing case, Maurice Chomba, a 24-year-old driver, has been convicted of raping and sodomising his 81-year-old landlord, leaving her severely injured and traumatised.
The elderly survivor testified in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court, recounting the horrific assault that caused extensive muscle damage, forcing her to wear diapers.
She reportedly lost consciousness during the attack, and a medical report confirmed her injuries were consistent with forced penetration.
Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya ruled that overwhelming evidence proved the assault was non-consensual, dismissing Chomba’s claims that the victim had lied.
The court also heard that Chomba attempted to bribe the victim’s grandson with K1,000 to conceal the crime, but the bribe was rejected.
Chomba has been committed to the High Court for sentencing, where he faces a minimum sentence of 15 years for his actions.
