23-year-old woman reportedly dumps her 2 weeks old baby in Chongwe

A 23 year-old woman of Chongwe has allegedly dumped her two-week old baby near a footpath in Kakubo village.

According to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, officers rushed to the scene and took the baby to Chongwe District Hospital for care and medical attention.

“Police in Chongwe received a report of baby dumping in which a member of the public found a baby girl dumped near a footpath in Kakubo village.

The baby was dumped on January 14, 2023 in Kakubo village at an unknown time,” Mwale said in a statement issued on Monday by the police.

He explained that police immediately instituted investigations and the identity of the mother was revealed as Lwendo Chizongo aged 23 of Kakubo village.

“She is alleged to have given birth two weeks ago. Police are investigating circumstances that led to the baby being dumped by the mother and a manhunt for the suspect who is on the run has since been launched,” according to Mwale.
