A 23-year-old, a shepherd by occupation, stands accused of repeatedly raping and impregnating his sister, allegedly under the twisted belief that this would bring him wealth.
The young victim, 18, who cannot be named recounted the traumatic events that began when she was just a teenager.
Testifying before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court, she described how her brother would sneak into her bedroom, removing her clothes and silencing her cries for help.
The abuse continued for months, from May to October with Samson Phiri threatening to take his own life if she ever revealed the truth.

In a disturbing twist, the victim alleged that her brother claimed to have been advised by someone to engage in incest as a means of accumulating wealth.
He even confessed to spiking their drinking water with medicine to prevent detection.
The victim’s world was turned upside down when she discovered she was pregnant with her brother’s child. Despite her family’s attempts to cover up the scandal, the sexual abuse was reported to the police.
In a heartbreaking revelation, the victim’s parents were said to have asked medical personnel to terminate the pregnancy, citing cultural reasons.
