Police have apprehended 12 suspects linked to a series of criminal activities targeting motorists at Kafue Roundabout, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, has announced.
Delivering a ministerial statement in Parliament on Friday, Mwiimbu said the suspects were arrested between February 12 and 13, 2025, in a joint operation involving police and other law enforcement agencies.
He disclosed that two of the suspects were identified through Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage.
Police have also recovered stolen property, and the public was urged to come forward to claim their belongings.
“The safety and security of the community remain a top priority for the government, and we will not tolerate any form of criminal activity,” Mwiimbu said.
To enhance security at Kafue Roundabout, police have deployed officers for visible deterrence and are conducting undercover operations to identify and disrupt theft rings.
Authorities have also engaged local traders to build trust and encourage the reporting of suspicious activities.
“We urge victims to report incidents and assist in identifying the apprehended suspects. Additionally, we are launching public awareness campaigns to educate motorists on theft risks and preventive measures,” Mwiimbu stated.
He further announced plans to install warning signs and deploy CCTV cameras under the Safe City Project.
“Theft of valuables and personal belongings from vehicles is not only a serious crime but also a threat to public safety. We urge all motorists to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions,” he warned.
